こんにちは！大木研究室の船田と平野です！！
5月22日の研究会では静岡大学の藤井先生の研究室の方々と共に合同ゼミを開催しました！！大木研究室と藤井研究室は長らく交流をしていますが、私にとっては今回が初めての合同ゼミ参加でした。
新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大で今学期はまだ一度も学校に足を踏み入れられていません。大木研究室のメンバーと面と向かって会えないのはとても寂しいですが、このような状況だからこそ遠く離れた藤井研究室の方々ともオンラインで簡単に議論を交わすことができ、技術の進歩に感謝しています。
合同ゼミでは、大木研究室の専門である「防災」と藤井研究室の専門である「教育」の2つの分野で、Withコロナの社会で抱える問題や今後の展望について議論を交わしました。以前から「教育実習を控えている大学生は、コロナ禍でどうなるのだろうか」と気になっていたので、実際に教育実習行うはずだった（延期になっているそうです）方に実情を聞くと、「授業をやることだけが教育実習じゃない」と現場に実際に行かないと学べないことがあると教えてくださりました。教育現場で新型コロナウイルスに対して不安や問題を抱えているのは児童や学生だけではない。大学生の立場だとそこまで考えられていなかったなと反省しました。
私自身、川越のプロジェクトに参加し、小中学校に赴くことは多いのですが、教育についての知識は限りなく0に近いので、教育を専攻されている藤井研究室の方々のお話を伺ったり、藤井先生から教育の制度の面などについても教えていただいたりといった今回の研究会の時間はとても実りあるものになりました。今後も藤井研究室の方々と関わりを持ち続けたいです！！
現在のように新型コロナウイルスの流行している状況では、今まで通りフィールドワークをすることも簡単ではありません。新しい時代の中でどのように防災と向き合っていくか、じっくりと考えていきたいと思います。

Hey there! My name is Yuto Hirano and I am a new member of Oki Lab.
On May 22nd, Oki Lab had a joint, online seminar with Professor Fujii and his students from Fujii Lab of Shizuoka University. We discussed issues focusing on education and how schools can adapt to the current situation of the pandemic. Among the topics we discussed were raising awareness for the continual necessity of Bosai (防災) or disaster prevention education in schools; how teachers, students, and families will adapt to the transition process as schools reopen; and how we are going to define “learning” itself in this new era with the pandemic.
One issue that Professor Fujii brought to our attention was that schools are put to the task of bringing students from a sudden spring hiatus back to an environment riddled with uncertainty. Schools will need to be run differently and the rules of social interaction for students, which is a crucial part of their growth and learning process, will be completely rewritten.
Only six months ago, children were taught to raise their head high and greet one another with loud, clear voices. Now, if we are in a bus, we are expected to wear a mask and look downwards without talking to one another. Professor Oki commented on how easy it is for such conventions that we take for granted in our daily life can be so easily overturned.
With schools teaching classes online, young students continue to lose opportunities for social interaction such as making friends or sitting around the table eating lunch together. Even these little things are important for a child’s social growth.
Towards the end of the seminar, Professor Oki and Professor Fujii lead a discussion on defining what is Gakuryoku (学力) or “the ability to learn.” Professor Fujii said that the old definitions such as knowledge, comprehension, and application are not relevant as before. Rather, he said being able to interact well with others and having communication skills are more important than ever in order to live and work successfully. The challenge for educators is to find alternative ways to continue teaching these vital skillsets during a time when social interaction is limited.
This is one of the many issues that Oki Lab and Fujii Lab will be discussing, analyzing, and working to find solutions in the coming months as people around the globe are slowly starting to resume their work and activities as they adjust to this “new normal.”
